Looking back at my first year, I think finding SWAN so early was one of the best things that happened to me. It gave me friends who inspire me, opportunities to create things I care about, and a space where femininity is embraced instead of boxed into one definition. Here, I found a flock that celebrates every version of womanhood and gave me the confidence to embrace my own. I’ll always be thankful that I get to call SWAN my home.

When I first entered college, I brought with me not only a curiosity for feminism as a concept but feminism manifested as a community. Like many guys (I assume), I had doubts about whether the presence of people like me would be welcomed. I'm glad this organization was there to dispel that hesitation. From its advocacy projects like Pads4Progress to fine arts initiatives like Kife, I learned I, like any other community member, can, and should, play a part and help my own way.

Spaces for Women’s Art and Narratives (SWAN) is the premier feminist fine arts organization of the Higher Education sector of the Loyola Schools that aims to foster safe spaces for creating and appreciating feminist expression in the fine arts, with the intention of co-empowering women and feminists within and outside of the Loyola Schools through personal and social contexts.
Advocacies
SWAN is dedicated to fostering a safe community that appreciates feminist expression and gender equality through initiatives that invite open dialogue on gender issues and showcase creativity in the Fine arts through publication, bringing beauty and depth in the fight for gender equality and safer spaces highlighting the transformative power of the arts and women’s narratives.
Competencies
SWAN’s core competency lies in fostering inclusive feminist advocacy through grace, integrity, solidarity, safety, and artistry.
